milestones has psiko-ed me

Quest i post at googs : when does a baby starts to walk?

Answer one : As a certified parent educator, I work with babies of all ages. Some babies walk at 9 months or earlier, but most walk between 12-15 months. If your baby is not walking at 15 months, talk to your pediatrician or family doctor.

Answer two : Babies start to walk when their leg and torso muscles are strong enough, they have the coordination and they have the motivation to do so (approximately on their first birthday. Older siblings tend to start walking later than younger ones. Some children walk as young as 8 months and others wait until about 14 months.

Answer three : Anywhere from 9 months to as late as 2 yrs. If you are over 2.5 years then I would seek professional help.

(aiyoooooo!!mana satu ni?)

when i was carrying ashraff,
i actually promised myself never to go comparing on milestones ie. baby development by the day/week/month/year with bb ash's development.

but im known to breaking promises so i read all them milestones and start comparing.

in fact at every milestone, there will be a tiny printed note at the bottom that says "baby development differs and this milestones are recorded from 1000 case study bla bla bla ".

i take it this statement is just to calm mothers who religiously follow these milestones and realises their baby is not quite following it (and of course starts to panick...haiyoo)

At this point im pretty much irritated with the question "bb da pandai ape dah?"

because to me "pandai apa" is very subjective:
Are they asking whether my son can roll over, say dada and standUp perfectly??
or is it whether my son can do taxes, run errands and perhaps, mmm i dont know, drive ?

and so at 13 months, lots are specifying the question to "da boleh jalan da?" (ha pandai pun tanya soalan, specific gitu!! hehehe)

and since bb ashraff is not walking yet,
as a psikoMilestoneMama like myself, im worried.

while we were waiting for his shot at his peds the other day, a 13month old boy was already walking, smiling being friendly and all, and i see my darling ash, standing still at the table, watching him...and wanting to follow him, yet scared to let go of the table, i got even worried..

so over the weekend, while we were venturing tropicanaMall and toysR-us, we both agreed to do something to make him achieve the milestone (tsk! tsk! tsk!) and bought this baby walker.

lightweight, looks cool kinda baby walker.
i could actually get a good pair of shoes with that price, but hell..this is for the milestone sake (geezzzz)

of course both rafek and i cut our outing time short to come home to see if this thing really works.

hazie and firhan were around, and lucky for us, hazie was telling us that this thing is a bit hazardous (at this point im thinking, demmit, shouldve gotten those shoes.. hehehe) as the baby might fall facefront...alamak!!

but anyways, we assembled it and (i feel bad about this actually) forced bb ash to stand. and of course at first he didnt want to...he just kept pushing the walker, as he is sitting down.

but last nite, there was a shine of hope.

after work, rafek slowly guided him to stand and eventually he started to push the walker. thanks to hazie's reminder, we both were on stndby ie one in front of him, one behind him, just in case he pushed too fast and fell...
(bb ash taking his pittStop, nak tengok iklan, bole? bhahaha)

he went about 8 to nine rounds, we went up and down..and he is finally pushing the walker well..
(with occasional "eksyen" gaya of lifting one hand, pushing it fast and siap sambil tngok tv, and pushing it fast with eyes closed, bole)
(ok now he is reverisng and about to start another 8-9 rounds, woot woot!)

i still feel bad pushing bb ash on his development...but at the same time, a little encouragement goes a long way (kan?)

apapun, i must admitt, milestones has psiko-ed me...(demmit)

disturbia

i watched slumDog Millionaire yesterday nite for the first time (like finally pls!!)

and i must say, the cinematography and the storyTelling really captures the essence of the slums living in India.

to the extent, that i couldnt sleep last nite.

yes, after my usual ups for ashraff, i ended up, staring at the wall thinking, wondering, imagining of one particular scene.
for the benefit of those reading and havnt seen this movie yet,

its the part where the children from the slums (the types that sleep at dumpster, depending life on whatever other people's garbage can branch out money for them to eat) were being picked up by (as i thought as first) were welfare people.

put in a home where most slums children were, there were fed and asked to recite some classic indian poetry and were ask to recite everyday until their voice is perfected.

then the disturbing part happends,

the wht i thought was the welfare person says to the boi that perfected his singing "i think this boi is ready" then comes one big buy behind the boi and says "im ready too" then gag the boi with somethng to keep him unconscious for a while, then slits his eye/face whtever to perfect a beggars look.

i felt like vomitting, just like the actor who witnessed it, and worst, the same thing was about to happen to his little brother.

(u will have to watch the movie at this point, for i do not intend to get sue for plagiarism..( " ,))

i mean, of course looking at the picture below , the actors are fine, getting their fifteen minutes of fame and what not

but it got me thinking, was this really happening in the slums of India and of course all parts of the world having beggars whom are children?

can you imagine,
a child,
so innocently practicing poetry and songs,
hoping to be the top one,
to be chosen for that one chance in front of that person this child has so trusted
being promised money and all the world can give

only to be waken up, with one or no sight at all and destined to beg his whole life?

nauzzubillah
